Ny-Fiskur is investing in a second FleXicut system from Marel for its processing facility in Sandgerdi, Iceland, the tenth system of its kind to be sold in the country.
Ny-Fiskur was one of the first companies to invest in the FleXicut soon after its launch in 2014 and the installation of the second FleXicut line at Ny-Fiskur is scheduled to take place later this year.
Thorsteinn Magnusson, managing director Ny-Fiskur. “We already know how the investment will improve processing speed and product quality, and we expect the new features will give us an important competitive edge.”
Although the machine has developed continuously since its launch, its main aim to improve handling, yield and productivity has not changed. But Marel said it can now raise quality even further with virtually hands-free processing all the way from pre-trim to end-of-line, including final packing.
Oskar Oskarsson, Marel sales manager, said: “We knew right from the start that FleXicut has a lot to offer our customers in terms of productivity, handling and yield. More recently, the real potential of the software element has come to light – operators can tell FleXicut where the value lies for them, in terms of high-value cuts and it will use that information to decide how to cut each and every fillet. This is groundbreaking stuff.”
Ny-Fiskur specialises in the processing and sale of cod and other fresh seafood processing 6,000 metric tonnes of raw material annually which is mainly exported to Belgium and other European countries.
