Torfinn Torp manages the fisheries and marine refrigeration side of the company’s activities, and these encompass everything from plate and blast freezers to brine freezing systems and RSW installations for pelagic vessels.

“We’re busy in northern Europe, in North America with our Seattle branch and increasingly in Russia,” he said, adding that the company has been established in St Petersburg for years and just recently opened up their branch in Vigo.

“In Russia we have been supplying refrigeration systems to the new trawlers being built at the Vyborg Shipyard, and also the new trawlers being built by Vard in Vietnam for Luntos. The Vigo branch is there to support the shipyards where they build ships of all kinds, freighters and ferries, as well as fishing vessels.”

Teknotherm is no stranger to the Icelandic market, having supplied the refrigeration system for Rammi’s factory trawler Sólberg, built at Tersan in 2017. The series of seven innovative fresher trawlers built by Vard in Norway for a group of Icelandic owners, including Bergur-Huginn, Skinney-Thinganes, Gjögur and Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa, were also fitted with Teknotherm’s refrigeration systems, and most recently pelagic vessel Hoffell has recently been upgraded with a new ammonia RSW plant.

“Those are the latest systems delivered to Iceland. Now we are busy with orders for three new factory trawlers for Faroese owners,” Torfinn Torp said.

“We are looking forward to going to Iceland in September. Icelanders are a fisheries-oriented people and they are good neighbours. This exhibition will also be the first one for a while in our part of the world, so we see there’s a lot of interest and IceFish looks like it will be the meeting point of the year.”
