The fleet fishing in the Falklands has been going through a process of renewal in recent years, with a number of new trawlers joining the fleet – all of which have been built by Nodosa.
The latest is the 75 metre LAO, 14 metre beam Falcon, delivered at the end of 2020 to a Falklands Islands/Spanish joint venture.
Falcon is designed by Nodosa’s own team of naval architects and follows a number of specialised fishing vessel deliveries in the last few years, including specialised toothfish longliner CFL Hunter and a series of trawlers for Dutch and German fishing companies, in addition to freezer trawlers for the South Atlantic fishery.
With accommodation for a crew of up to seventy and a daily freezing capacity of 121 tonnes, Falcon is designed for distant waters operation under the challenging conditions of the South Atlantic.
Falcon’s main and auxiliary engines are from Wärtsilä and the electric deck equipment is from Spanish supplier JandL Carral.
The Nodosa Shipyard has been a regular presence at IceFish and is again returning to the exhibition at Smárinn in September this year.
“Fishing industry exhibitions are important for any shipyard with experience and expertise in fishing vessel construction. IceFish is also special for Nodosa because of its focus on Northern Europe, which is where we have a number of projects that are being explored,” said the yard’s commercial manager José Ramón Regueira.
“This is where our clients, suppliers and partners meet, so it’s an ideal opportunity to share our latest experiences with them, show them the vessels we have delivered recently and test the market. This is why we will be there, just as we have been at previous events.”
