Norwegian fishing company Lie Gruppen recently took delivery of its new pelagic trawler Liafjord, built by the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.

Designed by Salt Ship Design, the 71-metre by 15-metre beam Liafjord follows the successful Libas, which was the world’s first LNG and battery-driven fishing vessel. Libas was delivered by Cemre some years ago.

Classed by BV and bearing the Norwegian flag, new eco-friendly Liafjord is the world’s first fishing vessel equipped with innovative retractable bow foil technology from Wavefoil.

The bow foils, seamlessly integrated into Liafjord’s design, significantly reduce vessel motion and energy consumption in challenging wave conditions. Cemre explained this technology not only ensures lower fuel consumption and emissions, it also enhances the safety and comfort of the crew onboard.

Bow foil technology further empowers the vessel to maintain higher speeds even in rough seas, marking a new era in pelagic trawler capabilities, the shipyard said.

Adding to its eco-credentials, the pelagic trawler is fitted with electric winches, a heat recovery system, and a battery-powered hybrid propulsion system.

Visitors to IceFish can look forward to learning more about Cemre and the shipyard’s latest projects.
