A public consultation process is being launched in Ireland on the preparation of a Marine Research and Seafood Sector Low Carbon Roadmap to boost Ireland’s marine economy.

The popularity of seafood in America, in particular shrimp, canned tuna and salmon, continues to grow, says the National Fisheries Institute (NFI).

NOAA has released its annual Fisheries of the United States 2012 report, which shows that US commercial fishermen landed 9.6 billion pounds of fish and shellfish in 2012, valued at $5.1 billion.

In its latest report into seafood fraud, Oceana has found that commonly swapped species in the United States can cost up to twice as much as their cheaper counterparts.

New research by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) has found that the majority of British school children (83%) are not eating the recommended two portions of fish per week.
