The yard has signed an agreement to design, construct and install catch handling decks for two fresher trawlers. Björgúlfur is operated by Samherji, and its subsidiary company Útgerðarfélag Aureyringa operates sister vessel Kaldbakur. Both were built in Turkey in 2017, as part of a series that includes Björg, which was fitted with a Slippurinn deck when it was delivered.

"The processing deck on board Björg has been a great success during this first year, and the catch handling has been excellent. Slippurinn's service and follow-up have been good, with only minimal problems since the first trip. Therefore it was decided to finalise an agreement with Slippurinn to design, produce and install decks for both Kaldbakur and Björgúlfur," said Samherji project manager Hjörvar Kristjánsson.

Kaldbakur's catch handling deck will be fitted this summer, and Björgúlfur will undergo a similar refit early next year, with Slippurinn providing a turnkey installation using sub-contractors such as Strand and Holmek.

"We want to offer our customers the best options available at any given time. It was decided with Samherji to buy helix tanks from Stranda and elevators from Holmek. We know those companies well and are working with them on other projects," said Slippurinn Akureyri's head designer Ágúst Guðnason.

In the design of the processing decks for Kaldbakur and Björgúlfur, the focus is on catch handling, ease of access and easy access for cleaning.

"It was a priority that the processing decks would be simple and efficient, which results in a better processing flow and reduces the risk of maintenance, which is important to Samherji and us," Ágúst Guðnason said.
