Based at Lanvéoc on Brittany, Bopp has been the go-to option for the French fishing industry for decades, supplying both the trawler fleet with winch system and producing the highly specialised systems required by the tropical tuna purse seine sector.

In recent years the company has expanded beyond the French market, building up a strong presence in the UK and Ireland. The Bopp winch systems delivered to recent newbuilds in the UK, Audacious and Victory Rose, have attracted plenty of attention, and the company is seeking to grow its market still further.

"We are exhibiting at IceFish for the first time," said Bopp's David Thepaut. "The Nordic region is interesting for the type of equipment we produce and we see IceFish as a gateway to that market."

Bopp manufactures a range of winches for trawlers and seine netters, as well as net drums, power packs, gilsons and other gear, and last year introduced a landing crane to its product line – with orders placed immediately for these by a couple of French fishing companies.

"Right now we are preparing the deck equipment packages for the new Russa Taign being built for owners in Scotland and for new Irish trawler Mary Paul," he said.

Bopp supplied winch systems for Armement Porcher's two new trawlers Harfang and Sapa
