Mauritania PELAGIC is the largest holding company which specialises in fish production and processing in Mauritania. The company has its own fishing fleet and accounts for 30% of all production and processing of fish in the country. The holding consists of three companies:
SEPH SA, which produces and process mainly pelagic fish; OMAURCI SA, which produces high quality fish-flour; and CPAA, which specialises in production and processing of best quality fish and seafood.
Hermes-Sojitz is investing €20m in exchange for 23% of shares of Mauritania PELAGIC. The investment will be spent on building a modern fishing trawler equipped with 500 tons RSW tanks, using the latest technologies and solutions in the field of shipbuilding. Negotiations are underway with leading shipyards in Germany, Denmark and Norway for the vessel building contract.
Installation of a special RSW system on the trawler will allow the vessel to deliver only high quality chilled fresh products to the onshore fish processing plant, which will significantly increase the export potential of the products which are in high demand on the global market.
The investment will also be used to purchase high-tech equipment for the fish processing plant, including plans to introduce unique surimi production technology, provided by Karelian Industrial Complex, the only Russian facility engaged in surimi production.
Hermes-Sojitz fund is also involved in other projects in the food industry in Africa. These include four high-tech fish processing complexes with total capacity that can produce 450,000 tons of fish products per year. The total amount of investment is €170m.
