Innovative startups are the driving force behind total utilisation, and the New Ventures in 100% session at the 100% Fish For Profit Conference next week will highlight the entrepreneurial energy that brings so much to the seafood party.
New additions to the speaker roster include Lalit Rane, the CSO & Co-Founder in 2023 of Há Biotech which is focused on the development of antibody-based solutions for challenges facing sustainable aquaculture.
These notably include the development of reproductively sterile farmed fish to prevent the tens of thousands that escape every year from breeding with wild populations, protecting native species from genetic pollution and disease.
In 2025, Rane also co-founded Havdis AS, a marine-biotechnology company developing high-purity, traceable marine ingredients, including PDRN, DNA, collagen and peptides for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
Another new contributor is Sara Erickson, founder of AlaSkins. A lifelong Alaskan, she has transformed wild Alaskan fish skins into premium, sustainable pet treats, creating further value for Alaska’s seafood industry and community. She has also developed Arctic Omega Cream, a skincare product made from pure halibut oil, further extending her 100% fish approach.
Erickson’s commitment to sustainability and Alaska’s blue economy has also seen the creation of the non-profit AlaSkins Discovery organisation aimed at inspiring the state’s youth, and the Blue Salmon educational board game that challenges players to balance economic success with environmental stewardship.
The inspiring New Ventures session will also hear from Havdis founder Benedek Regoczi on upcycling fish milt for use as a bioactive in skin and wound care, and Hogne Hallaråker, founder and CSO of Arctic Bioscience, on using genetically modified microalgae in fish feed to promote immunity and better health.
Such level of creative imagination is worth the cost of admission alone!
