“Now, more than ever, it’s really important to look at these partnerships from a global perspective, because this is a global challenge. There is way too much seafood loss and waste happening throughout the supply chain,” Leeper said.
Citing a 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) report, she informed the conference that almost 24 million tonnes of potentially edible seafood could be being lost from supply chains, and that much of this volume is at the processing stage on land through cut-offs.
“Globally, we are all losing the most amount of value at this processing stage. That means there’s a huge opportunity to share this challenge and these opportunities and really explore ways to improve it and to move towards 100% fish together.”
