Dr Arenas Fuentes spoke about the Conference, which will take place in March of next year, and emphasised Mariculture’s “potential for great success in Mexico”.
The Chairman also referred to the current worrying status of world fisheries stating that it is “our duty to source more fish in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner”. He added that “Offshore Mariculture Mexico, 2017 the first event ever to be held outside of Europe, will present the latest in scientific innovation alongside real-life case studies highlighting the many opportunities available to farmers and businesses alike in Mexico”.
With a long history of academia behind him, Dr Arenas Fuentes was a biologist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) where he completed his masters, majoring in Management, Natural Resources and Population Ecology. He has over 25 years’ experience in assessment and fisheries management, international conservation of natural resources, population dynamics, sustainable development and policies on global wildlife resources in fisheries, which has allowed him to participate in programs for management, conservation and sustainable development with practical approaches to natural resources.
