The new ‘Deli Area’ brings the factory to the leading edge of seafood development and production in the UK, and marks the final phase of a £5.4m upgrade at Fraserburgh.
“This spend completes the project to re-allocate production space within Fraserburgh and to prioritise our focus on growing areas of the UK seafood market,” states managing director, John Whalen.
“This is part of our strategy for Macrae to be the UK’s leading innovator in seafood speciality products.”
The main focus of the Deli Area has been the development of preparation, processing and assembling areas to ensure maximum flexibility and efficient linear process flows. The area also has blast freezing and blast chilling capabilities.
The new facility will produce lines ranging from salmon terrines and pates to Christmas speciality lines and ground-breaking innovation in party foods.
Already several launches have been lined up for key customers including Marks & Spencer, Somerfield, Asda and Makro. Macrae has also been successful in developing a range of fresh pates for export markets in France and Belgium.
“The facility has been completed in time for product build up and launches for the busy Christmas period,” says Mr Whalen.
Other works completed in the year-long £5.4m upgrade programme included a new primary salmon processing and packing line and improvements to staff facilities.
