Michael Jones is President of The Maritime Alliance (TMA) in San Diego, CA. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at The Foreign Policy Institute, Johns Hopkins University “School of Advanced International Studies” (SAIS) in Washington, DC to focus on the oceans and growing global Blue Economy.
TMA is a non-profit industry association and organizer of the San Diego maritime technology community, which is the largest BlueTech (ocean & water technology) cluster in the U.S. and one of the largest in the world. Its Mission Statement is “Promoting Sustainable, Science-Based Ocean & Water Industries”. TMA have a strong outreach effort to promote the creation of organized, regional Blue Economy and BlueTech clusters globally and has recently helped form a BlueTech Cluster Alliance with eight of the leading clusters in the world representing seven countries.
TMA was chosen by the U.S. Department of Commerce for the 1st ever U.S. Maritime Technology Export Initiative to help innovative, small U.S. BlueTech companies participate in identified trade shows with follow-on missions. And TMA is the regional partner to bring Oceanology International – the world’s leading ocean science & tech trade show and conference, which takes place in London every even number year – to San Diego, CA as Oceanology International North America (OINA) every odd number year beginning Feb. 14-16, 2017. This will be the biggest ocean science and technology trade show and conference in the Americas.
