French fresh fishing vessel owner, Scapêche, has received responsible fishing certification for pollack, blue ling, monkfish and black scabbardfish taken by its three 46m trawlers.
The certificate was issued by independent body, Bureau Veritas.
Scapêche, a subsidiary of Groupement des Mousquetaires, already received certification in 2006 for the Atlantic cod fished by its longlining vessel.
The criteria used by the company to achieve certification were:
• Natural resources
• The environment
• Onboard crew and respect for their social rights
• Safety of consumers through sanitary control of products and using onboard packaging into crates to optimise freshness and guarantee traceability.
The company said " By taking this approach, not only does the Groupement des Mousquetaires work to preserve the world's fisheries, but it also seeks to provide its customers with a guarantee of the utmost quality of its products, both in terms of taste and traceability".
