A somewhat different national competition has been launched by Seafish, Britain''s Sea Fish Industry Authority, to find the best of the best across the seafood industry and also boost standards.
Called The Seafood Industry Awards, they will 'recognise excellence' right across the sector so there will be 10 awards in all, a Seafish statement said.
The event is being launched and promoted in conjunction with Highbury Business, publisher of World Fishing magazine.
A spokesperson there said that while there would be no cash prizes, winners would receive a trophy and would surely benefit from the publicity. Andrew Dewar-Durie chairman of Seafish said in the statement:
"We are delighted to announce this new event which will further highlight the importance of seafood and the roles, that each part of the industry plays, in bringing quality seafood to the consumer's plate."
In addition to these awards, Seafish are launching new seafood categories at Highbury's annual Retail Industry Awards and The Quality Food and Drink Awards.
