Europêche has expressed strong support for the nomination of Costas Kadis as the new Commissioner-Designate for Fisheries and Oceans.
The organisation, which represents fishers across the European Union, says it is eager to collaborate with Kadis to enhance the sustainability, competitiveness and resilience of the fishing sector.

“It is our hope that Mr Kadis will restore the balance between biodiversity conservation, the sustainable use of natural resources, and food security – an equilibrium that was regrettably lacking in the previous legislative term,” said Javier Garat, president of Europêche.
Europêche also commends the mandate of the executive vice-president-designate for Cohesion and Reforms, who will focus on bolstering the resilience and competitiveness of fisheries in the global market, a key focus for the Commission.
In a crucial political transition, Europêche is set to meet executive vice-president Maroš Šefčovič on 25 September to address pressing fisheries issues.
Key topics include fostering sustainable partnerships with Norway, developing a unified EU position for the ICCAT Annual Meeting in 2024, and securing fair quota allocations for 2025 across the Atlantic, Baltic and Mediterranean seas.
“While the new college of commissioners is expected to take office by December 1, this meeting will ensure that pressing fisheries issues continue to receive the political attention they deserve,” said Daniel Voces, managing director of Europêche.
