Denmark-based Dan Fender says its trawl-float fender can cut 24kgs off the weight of a traditional float system. It produces the special ''Skaw'' fender for Polar Skagen in Denmark. They are filled with a special polyurethane mixture in liquid form that hardens to produce a rigid float that works down to 50 metres but specials can be made to go down to 200m.
The big advantages is that instead of using 16 conventional round floats with a weight of approximately 40kg, you can use one Skaw float weighing only 16 kg. "It also has a much lower resistance in water when towing than the conventional floats, are easier to handle and much lighter," they say.
The Skaws have a stainless steel ring in each end and are clipped onto the trawl as the gear is shot away and unclipped as it is hauled back -- making shooting and hauling easier and quicker
Dan Fender manufactures fenders, buoys, floats, mooring-buoys and other maritime products. They say their heavy duty fenders and marker-buoys are produced with a unique solid injection-moulded ropehold for strength and quality.
All smaller items have a metal valve (instead of plastic) which guarantees that the products are easy to inflate and never cause problems.
Larger items have a unique heavy duty valve. All Dan fender products are also tested in water before leaving the factory, which guarantees the users that they get a product that is ready and safe for use.
The special marine PVC used is stabilised to give weather resistance and tolerate extreme temperature variations. Products are rotation moulded and all colours go right through the pvc and Dan Fender say they use the best possible UV-protection.
There is a range of colours and sizes. They also supply navies, not just the commercial and sporting.
