DSI Denmark has now sold more than 150 CO2 freezer plate systems since it began getting clearances to develop CO2 models of its range at the start of 2000. A company statement said they are used for quick, deep freezing many different food products, such as fish, shellfish, meat, offal, vegetables, ice cream and pre-cooked meals.

Set up in 1969, DSI expanded by buying into an Italian company and their move to pursue the CO2 market was because they felt the time had come to implement environmental friendly refrigerants.

The equipment has to withstand higher pressure and lower temperatures. They said it took a year to get the necessary approvals from the different authorities.

Certificates

And they can now supply certificates for any CO2 plate freezers installation. It has delivered system to vessels in the Dutch and Norwegian trawler fleets as well as on land for fish processing companies. and to installation on land. Other sales include to Germany, and the US.

Installations include vertical and automatic horizontal plate freezers. They said their Co2 plants reduce freezing time by up to 50 per cent, compared to a Freon or Ammonia plant at -35C to -40degrC evaporating temperature. This means you can cut the number of plate freezers and free up more space, due to the special design . DSI will participate on the IKK exhibition for the refrigeration industry in Numberg (Germany) that will be hold on October 13-15.
