During SPE Dutch-based packaging specialist SolidPack will be showcasing its packaging for the fish trade.
SolidPack offers solutions for safely packaging and transporting fish and similar goods, and the company ships its packaging all over the world.
A distinguishing feature of all SolidPack packaging products is that they are made out of solid board. This very efficient type of board is moisture-proof by nature, which makes it ideally suited for packaging fish and other 'humid' products. The fact that solid board itself is made out of 75% recycled paper makes for a high degree of sustainability. To top it all off, SolidPack says that excellent printability makes solid board packaging a perfect marketing instrument as well.
The company says that it is always on the lookout for new ways to meet the modern market's wishes and operate as socially responsible as possible. SolidPack's R&D department has recently developed a new method for integrating grass into the raw material that packaging is made of. The type of grass used for this purpose would not be fit to be turned into animal feed. Collected from Dutch nature preserves, it's waste material that would otherwise be burned in incinerators or processed by fermenters.
This way of using grass means that fibres can be kept economically productive longer than before. In a time where a circular economy is considered the ultimate objective, SolidPack consider this a major step forward. What's more, this new type of board features product qualities in the same range as solid board with 75% recovered paper. The new ‘grass packaging’ is an important effort by SolidPack to make its products even more sustainable.
