The newly upgraded Capt. Hook management and information system for longline fisheries has been launched by Mørenot Dyrkorn.
The system has already been installed onboard six deep sea longliners with great success - Kristin þH, Örvar þH, Sturla GK, Sighvatur GK, M. Solhaug, and Rifsnes.
The computer management system consists of a number of control units that show an overview with clear and animated images and gauges. It is easy for the operator to switch between units and continue where he left off.
The Haul Unit controls, measures, calculates and shows the tension on the line and the hauling speed. It also shows the number of hooks and fish hauled. The Quick Control equipment makes it easy to control hauling speeds and tension, start and stop hauling, or switch from slower to faster hauling and vice versa. An overview is provided of hauled magazines and provides the option of combining magazine on the screen.
The Bait Unit measures, calculates and shows the setting speed of the line in proportion to the speed of the vessel and bait proportion of the hooks together with totals. It also shows the number of magazines in the set and an overview of the set and baiting in percentages.
The Endrope Unit controls, measures and calculates the tension on the rope and hauling speed, together with the length of the rope and depth.
The Dredge Unit controls, measures, calculates and shows the tension on the dredge, together with the estimated location of the dredge based on depth and rope length.
Safety is a key aspect of the Capt. Hook system. For instance, the speed is not set with increased tension, and the stop function from the Quick Control shortcut panel works irrespective of which screen units are active.
The Capt. Hook system is available for all known winch systems, i.e., both high and low-pressure systems and is tailored to the customer’s pre-existing equipment.
A new mini edition has been especially designed for smaller boats and is to be installed on a new 15m vessel built by Seigla for Icelandic owner Sakkavik.
