Canada’s government is investing an additional $375,000 for maintenance and planning projects at three fishing harbours in Quebec.
"Fishing is essential to the economy of Quebec maritime communities," said the Minister of Fisheris and Oceans, the Honourable Loyola Hearn. "Canada's New Government is committed to supporting those communities and the fishers by providing them with safer harbour facilities."
Projects will be carried out at the following three Quebec harbours:
At St-Georges-de-la-Malbaie, development of plans and specifications will begin this year with a view to future work to strengthen the wharf with riprap and install floating docks so that fishers once again have a suitable mooring surface.
At L’Anse-à-Valleau, part of the north wharf is collapsing and will be demolished to provide users with safe harbour facilities. In addition, preparation of plans and specifications for the rebuilding of the tip of the main breakwater will begin.
In addition, the entrance to the basin at Cap-aux-Meules has been dredged to give boats adequate water depth and safe access to the harbour.
This $375,000 investment, combined with projects previously announced this year, brings the investment for Small Craft Harbours in Quebec to $6.95 million.
