The nine awards covering sustainability, training, engagement with the local fishing fleet, and more recognise outstanding achievement in the sector.

Last year’s winner, Jordan Keig, beat off his competitors in an online poll which showcased the talents of four young fishmongers. Entering the awards boosted Jordan’s personal and professional development. “Winning the Young Fishmonger Award has helped me a lot with my confidence and ability to talk to people and has helped me with pushing myself to constantly improve within my working environment,” he said.

Jay Gore, manager of the Fish Market IOM where Jordan works, explained more. “Getting involved in last year’s awards was a new thing to us all; we are extremely happy that we decided to take on the challenge. The public interest and customer feedback during and after Jordan won the Young Fishmonger Award has been overwhelming. I would encourage all fishmongers with a passion for seafood and the fishing industry to get involved,” he said.

Fishmongers can enter themselves or members of the public can nominate their favourite fishmongers. The winners will be announced on 8 June.
