Icelandic state procurement authority Ríkiskaup has opened tenders for the construction of a new research vessel for the Marine Research Institute.

The 70-metre, Skipasýn-designed vessel will be built to comply with underwater noise regulations under ICES 209, or a similar applicable standard
The vessel is intended to strengthen Iceland’s fishery research capacity and to work alongside existing research vessel Árni Friðriksson, which was constructed in Chile in 2000 for the Icelandic Marine Research Institute.
Three offers were made, all of them from Spanish shipyards, and according to the Institute these will be assessed in the coming weeks, ahead of negotiations with the yards that put in bids for the build.
