Onshore electronic auction system manufacturer Aucxis has diversified to develop specific software for the fishing sector’s electronic logbook E-Catch.
This software was developed to meet the European requirements on the digital delivery of catch data, which were introduced to EU member states on 1 January 2010.
The E-Catch package is the first one that fully meets these requirements: the Dutch ships that were equipped with the log were the first to electronically report their catch to the monitoring authorities’ production platform.
E-Catch log was designed in close co-operation with fishermen and is a user-friendly package that remits the data to the administration in a platform independent way, Aucxis said.
Apart from meeting the EU-obliged catch reporting, Aucxis said it developed the software in such a way that the concept opens new possibilities for further sales system integration and for even more advanced fishery product marketing.
E-Catch is currently used by Dutch ships and by the Dutch government. The package is always connected to one ship so that it can send in its messages.
“Dutch authorities want to take the package into use as a fallback possibility for ships that (temporarily) can’t send in any messages,” said Aucxis.
Following the successful implementation and rollout to the Dutch market, Belgian ships are now also equipped with the system. For this purpose, a partnership with Radio Holland (Belgium), a leading communication device supplier in the sector, was set up to be able to deliver an onboard turnkey package.
To enable Belgian ship-owners to use E-Catch, the package has to communicate through a web service. Therefore, Aucxis expanded the application to enable the user to select this new communication form in the settings screen.
