Gigante Salmon is on track to begin harvesting in Q2 2025

“It has been a year since we started test production, and the fish is growing well with average weight approaching 3 kilograms,” said chief executive, Kjell Lorentsen.

Despite some weather-related delays impacting the installation of surface cladding and the completion of production pool 2, Gigante Salmon remains focused on reaching its full production capacity of 16,000 tonnes HOG annually by 2028.

Construction of production pool 2 is expected to be completed by Q1 2025, with production pool 1 slated for completion by summer 2025.

“2025 will be a pivotal year for Gigante Salmon, as we transition from the construction phase towards full scale production,” added Lorentsen.

“The facility is designed to prioritise both fish welfare and economic efficiency and we make daily progress, strengthening our readiness for the full-capacity launch from 2026.”

Other notable achievements during Q4 include the establishment of shorepower through a submarine cable and the completion of all risers and seawater intakes. While some delays have resulted in increased costs, the company remains confident that the overall project will stay within budget.
