Big Mouth strikes again

An iconic singing and dancing fish is serenading passengers at the UK’s busiest railway station as wild fish advocate, LEAP, launches its largest campaign to date.

Two weeks of billboards at Waterloo in London will feature the animatronic Big Mouth Billy Bass urging passers-by to choose wild fish over farmed produce.

Lisa Cowell, head of marketing at New England Seafood, said LEAP aimed to put wild salmon front and centre in consumers’ minds. “The disruptive creative breaks category norms to communicate the superior taste of wild fish due to their incredible natural diet from a life swimming free,” she said.

“We can’t wait to spread our message to an even wider audience and see the public response to the campaign, in the hope we’ll encourage more consumers in the UK to try incredible wild fish.”

Running from 9 October, the campaign features 16 billboards with LEAP’s tongue-in-cheek messaging. The billboards will be supported by the brand’s first UK-wide television ad campaign, also featuring Big Mouth Billy Bass, reputedly a favourite of the late queen who kept one on her piano at Balmoral.

The campaign highlights the superior taste of wild fish and will be live across Sky, YouTube and social media through to the end of the years. LEAP is also sharing quick and easy wild fish recipes created by chefs Michael Bremner and Luke French.

“Everyone’s favourite singing and dancing fish, Big Mouth Billy Bass, swept the nation in the 00s, becoming a fun fixture in our homes, and even Buckingham Palace,” said Chris Forrester, director of commercial for outdoor at Global.

“Seeing him scaled up and singing to the masses in London’s Waterloo is brilliant. It just goes to show that in outdoor advertising, any-fin is possible!”
