Yooji’s Restaurants uses yellowfin tuna fished by Friend of the Sea approved fisheries, so it can now show the certification eco-label on its menu.

“Over the past few years we have come to realise how important sustainability is to the future of our business, and our customers too,” said Sarah Strub, PR, Yooji’s. “Customers do ask questions about where our fish comes from. We can prove that it is fully traceable back to a Friend of the Sea approved fishery.”

“Friend of the Sea label is increasingly familiar in Switzerland and it can be found in several points of sale,” added Paolo Bray, director, Friend of the Sea. “Friend of the Sea seal of approval on Yooji’s menu will further help Swiss consumers to make sustainable choices.”

Targeted yellowfin tuna stocks in the fishing areas are not overexploited and fishing gears meet at certification criteria, since tuna is caught using only traditional mutlihook handline methods. Yellowfin caught for sushi consists mainly of mature individuals, so the fishery does not catch juveniles, allowing the stock to reproduce.
