Digital tuna auction service provider TunaSolutions has become a member of the International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF).

fishery workshops

TunaSolutions recently led fishery workshops on St Helena

TunaSolutions’ founder and CEO, Thomas de Kock, joined IPNLF on St Helena, in the South Atlantic Ocean, to support the charity’s ongoing project to bring better returns to the island’s sustainable tuna fishery. Sydney-headquartered TunaSolutions led fishery workshops to share lessons learned from other one-by-one fisheries, including fishing strategies, fishing gears, and ways to maximise catch quality and value. It also guided stakeholders through a tuna grading workshop, teaching them how to identify the highest quality tuna for premium markets.

de Kock said: “IPNLF's focus on social and environmental development running hand-in-hand with economic industry growth aligns with our vision here at TunaSolutions and creates a fantastic base for a fruitful partnership, whilst ensuring the members stay ahead of the curve with modern technology. We are looking forward to creating a sustainable future alongside IPNLF.”

Improving opportunities

TunaSolutions’ online marketplace is specifically designed for the tuna industry – connecting buyers and suppliers through a series of real-time auctions.

Initiated in 2016, the platform has been adopted in over 15 countries, allowing suppliers to sell tuna to high paying markets, giving traders access to a wider buying audience and enabling buyers to choose suppliers that better meet their requirements.

By focusing on eliminating the inefficiencies within the tuna market, TunaSolutions aims to de-risk trade opportunities with new international partners and get the highest return possible to tuna fishing communities.

The company also engages in fisheries reform initiatives, cultivating the development of new and existing fisheries to improve capture, product handling and processing procedures to maximise product value and achieve a higher level of sustainability.
