Skipsteknisk AS has secured the design contract for a new Arctic factory freezer trawler for Niisa Trawl Aps, located in Nuuk, Greenland.

The new vessel, which is of a length of 80m and a beam of 17m, is of ST-118 design, a tailored design for operation in heavy ice at the coast of Greenland.
It will be named Regina C and is the third Skipsteknisk-designed vessel to carry the name.
Regina C will be outfitted primarily for the northern coldwater shrimp fishery, with additional fisheries options included. The vessel will be built according to a DNV GL class with the highest Baltic ice-class rating and will be built with accommodation for 32 persons, all arranged in modern, well-appointed single and double cabins.
During the development of the vessel design, high emphasis was placed on reduction of any pollutive discharges to water or air and the recovery and recycling of excess energy, wherever possible.
For Skipsteknisk AS, this is a very important contract secured in a period where the design companies are suffering due to low activity in the offshore segment. But it said that because the design of fishing and research vessels have always been high priority at Skipsteknisk, these segments are keeping the company busy.
A contract for the vessel’s construction has been signed with the Spanish shipyard Metalships & Docks SA, a shipyard with excessive experience in building specialised vessels within fishery and offshore.
The Regina C is scheduled for delivery in August 2018.
