On the first day of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, Faroese company Rock Trawl Doors signed a contract with Qajaq Trawl from Greenland, for a pair of trawl doors.

The doors are for Qajaq Trawl’s vessel Markus, a twin trawler fishing for shrimp.

The contract is for Rock Trawl Doors’ new model, Sea-Lion. Three pairs of Sea-Lion doors are already in use in Greenland.

The set of Sea-Lion doors for Markus totals 13.75m2 and each door weighs 6.4t.

The company was due to deliver the new doors to Markus by the end of October this year.

“I am very pleased with this contract, especially as it for our new model, Sea-Lion,” Hans Joensen, Manager of Rock Trawl Doors, told World Fishing. “Our customers are very happy with the three sets of doors already in use.”

Markus was built by Umoe Sterkoder in Kristiansand Norway in 2003. It is 70.5m in length and the width is 15.9m.

The company also sold another pair of trawl doors to an Icelandic company, and another 4.2m2 pair to a company from Greenland.

Seventeen Icelandic trawlers are already equipped with doors from Rock Trawl Doors.
