Transas Marine UK Ltd are offering a trawler version of their navigation software which has till now been used by large shipping for ''blind'' navigation relying only on electronic systems.
Transas developed Fishmaster software for Litton Marine but are now selling it under their own name as NaviFisher3000 (NF3000). Their original commercial shipping software (ECDIS) was the first to be granted type approval. Now, NF3000 is the first to meet the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) new "Mini-ECDIS" specification for fishing vessels.
"Fishermen have always been at the cutting edge of marine electronics for a very simple reason," says Nick Dalton, UK sales manager for Transas, "because it helps them to catch fish."
NF3000 also provides a full range of fishing tools including a global tides and currents database, 3D bathymetric modeling and data conversions. Users can have a customised set of alerts and tailor the screen layout. The system will work with earlier versions of Fishmaster software.
Dalton said the software allows a fisherman to use the same equipment for his fishing data and 100% electronic navigation and this offers a real safety advantage.
Transas R&D centre in Russia has moved premises to a new building on Vasilievskiy Island, St Petersburg, bringing together production, administration, products, project development, technical support, sales, financial, PR and marketing services under one roof.
