The Buckie based company, part of Associated Seafoods, won the ‘Development of Export Markets’ award at the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards held in Inverness on 19 October.

Lossie’s former sales director, Charles Devin, who now works as a consultant for the company, also scopped ambassador of the year at the awards.

Last year Lossie Seafoods sold to 98 customers in 24 countries including Russia and China – which Associated Seafoods says is largely down to the work of Mr Devin.

Mr Devin commented to World Fishing & Aquaculture: “My life has been in the export market, searching the world for the niche market player and new destination. I pioneered Scottish smoked salmon into Beirut, Moscow, Amman, Copenhagen, Honolulu, Mexico City and Zimbabwe. This is the pinnacle of my career and I am delighted to have been recognised and awarded this very special award.”

Henry Angus, export sales director, Lossie Seafoods, said: “The Scottish brand name has a great reputation for quality and there is strong interest in the export market for premium smoked salmon, as well as Scottish langoustines supplied by our sister company, Moray Seafoods.”

He pointed out that several customers are now looking for combined consignments of smoked salmon and langoustine, which has enhanced Lossie's product offering and appeal.
