With the new Simrad CS55/56 Charting System, if things go wrong at sea it will talk to you and tell you why.

This latest technology from Simrad features a unique human voice alarm system to warn of grounding and other obstructions, designed to ensure the bridge crew takes notice of impending problems.

The system is similar to that used in the cockpit of an aeroplane and avoids the problem of identifying where annoying warning bleeps are coming from on a busy bridge often packed with electronics.

The CS55/56 is a professional Charting System with a host of advanced features including an ARPA Interface and Gyro Interface specially designed for the demanding requirements of workboats, coastal transport and fishery vessels.

A unique capability has been inbuilt to combine both a monitoring and planning mode in the charting system.

All the safety functions are continuously active even when route planning.

In the Monitor mode the position of the vessel is displayed in real time on the chart.

The ships outline and size is displayed with actual vessel heading, COG and SOG and actual track can been clearly seen. When Planning, the route and waypoints can be simply adjusted using a trackerball or numeric keyboard.

The planned route can be stored and recalled whenever necessary.

The Simrad CS55/56 can be tailored to suit the requirements of specific applications. Multitracking capability for tug boats, Automatic travel schedules can be recorded and stored for use by ferries which make repeated sailings along the same route a single button reverses the display.

A 5Hz fast screen update is available for high speed ferries or fast superyachts, a maximum turn rate can be set for automatic turns which maintain passenger comfort.

Even a SAR grid can be used for Search and Rescue craft.

An Automatic Passenger Information System can be generated by the CS55 that displays routes, safety information and other details in passenger areas. Cargo Vessels, High Speed Craft and Fishing Vessels all have specific applications that can be tailored for their use.

Virtually any type of external sensor can be connected to the chart system to provide a total navigation station.

When connected to the autopilot the advanced route calculations of the CS55/56 will take the vessel safe and seamlessly through a whole route notifying the user before every turn, and warning of dangers such as crossing ARPA targets or grounding possibilities.

This new charting System for Simrad is available in two hardware versions; the CS55 with four interface ports, or the type approved CS56 with eight interface ports which may be upgraded to ECDIS.

Simrad has been at the forefront of new marine electronics for many years, developing equipment that makes the mariners life easier and safer.

* The new CS55/56 is no exception and with its tailor made capabilities can bring the new advances in electronics to an even wider audience of sea going vessels.
