Funding for seaweed-based packaging
B’ZEOS, a European innovator in sustainable packaging, has secured seed funding to scale its seaweed-based packaging solution, which offers a viable alternative to traditional plastics.
The seed round, led by Faber and supported by ICIG Ventures, the venture capital unit of International Chemical Investors Group, will accelerate the company’s mission to develop compostable, bio-based packaging using seaweed.
“We’ve developed a truly sustainable seaweed-based packaging solution, derived from a variety of seaweed species,” said Guy Maurice, founder & chief executive of B’ZEOS.
“We’re not just focused on developing an eco-friendly solution – we are providing an industry-ready, scalable alternative for packaging manufacturers globally.”
Made from rapidly growing seaweed B’ZEOS’s packaging is a fully bio-based, home-compostable solution that sequesters CO2, requires no fresh water and avoids microplastic pollution.
The investment builds on previous support from biotopeby VIB, Sustainable Ocean Alliance and grants from entities such as the Research Council of Norway and Innovation Norway.
This new funding will enable B’ZEOS to fast-track its product development, begin commercial production and expand partnerships with leading corporations.
The company has already conducted successful paid pilot projects with industry giants like Nestlé, and plans to launch additional trials to further demonstrate the packaging’s versatility across various sectors.
