Spain’s Nueva Pescanova Group has joined the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) in order to improve the sustainability of its supply chain.
The company, which dates back more than 50 years and operates in more than two dozen countries worldwide, said it will work with SFP to improve its sustainability using various improvement projects and data management tools.
“Working together with SFP is an important step that will help us to be more transparent and contribute more actively in improving the conservation of resources and the rationalisation of fishing, a commitment that has been present in the DNA of our company for almost six decades,” said Juanjo De la Cerda, corporate director of R&D, quality and sustainability, Nueva Pescanova Group.

He added that Nueva Pescanova has always had a strong interest in sustainability. Among its accomplishments are that the company has established its own sustainable fishing certificate, audited by Bureau Veritas for hake catches in Namibia.
“Nueva Pescanova has a history in the seafood industry in Spain and globally,” said Pedro Ferreiro, SFP’s deputy director, buyer engagement.
“We are certain that Pescanova’s engagement will inspire other companies worldwide to follow its lead toward a more sustainable future.”
Founded in 2006, the SFP is a no-profit organisation dedicated to rebuilding depleted fish stocks and reducing the environmental and social impacts of fishing and fish farming through engaging fishery stakeholders (communities, NGOs, government, etc.) and seafood businesses in every part of the supply chain.
