Cetap, a Portuguese based company, presented for the first time at the show what it claims to be a revolutionary system in cages under the motto ''Fishing, protecting the fish''.
All cages are designed with a safety door, degradable and attached to the main structure through elastics that break after three months in the water allowing juveniles catches to escape. The are designed in steel and HDPE resistant to low temperatures. For deep water fishing, Cetap has added cement on the base of the pots to compensate water pressure.
The pots come in different shapes and designs depending of the targeted specie. Cetap has also developed cages to catch haddock. Cages are suspended in the water with a 15m distance from each other, with a capacity of holding up to 50 haddocks each.
Antonio Matos, managing director of Cetap, told World Fishing: "Our idea is to develop products and materials that allow fishing to protect the fish and to avoid the destruction of the species."
He also said that cages can be tailor made according to the country legislation and the market needs.
The company has 40 years experience in fishing materials as used to provide the materials to build the cages. Now, for first time, the company is selling the pots ready to use.
