The best fish and chip shops have been honoured at the UK’s National Fish and Chip Awards, hosted by comedian Rob Beckett.

Businesses, industry partners and sponsors came together at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London to celebrate excellence at home and, for the first time this year, abroad.

Ship Deck has been named Takeaway of the Year at the UK’s National Fish and Chip Awards 2023

“It’s no secret that the sector has been hit hard by economic hardship, yet we have seen firsthand how chippies up and down the country, and overseas, are thinking fast on their feet to defy the odds without compromising on ethical standpoints, quality and most importantly, great tasting fish and chips,” said the president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, Andrew Crook.

Category winners have been invited to visit Norway in June for a two-day study trip hosted by principal sponsor, Seafood from Norway.

Winners will experience the clear waters of Norway aboard the Danish seine vessel, Østerfjord, to learn more about environmental and sustainable practices.

They will also meet leading industry authorities and stakeholders to find out how fish stocks are sustained, as well as learning about frozen-at-sea white fish.

“We look forward to welcoming all of the winners to Norway to show them the journey of responsibly sourced Norwegian cod and haddock, from ocean to plate,” said Victoria Braathen, UK director of the Norwegian Seafood Council.
