“Fish and chip shops are much more than just places to enjoy a great meal - they are at the heart of UK communities and the sense of togetherness this brings is vital and needs encouraging,” said Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers and organiser of the award.

The three finalists vying for the award are:

  • Pier Point, Torquay – This shop raised £6,400 for Rowcroft Hospice through a variety of fundraising events, including a skydive and a special edition of Torbay Monopoly. The team also delivered complimentary meals to hospice staff and patients on National Fish & Chip Day.
  • Brockley’s Rock, Brockley – Known for its community-focused efforts, Brockley’s Rock led the transformation of a neglected service road into a safer, cleaner space. The shop also supports local arts, culture and community events.
  • Zero Plus, Cardiff – Zero Plus has made waves with its educational workshops teaching schoolchildren about sustainability and responsible consumption. The shop also engages in various local initiatives, including installing a disability ramp and participating in litter picking events.

The finalists will proceed to online interviews before the awards ceremony in London on 26 February, where the first-ever Community Engagement Award winner will be announced.
