Seafish has awarded £4,000 from its Industry Project Fund (IPF) to the Shellfish Association of Great Britain (SAGB) to produce five new online videos of how to prepare key shellfish species.

The videos, which will be free to download from the SAGB’s YouTube site, are aimed at teaching consumers how to prepare crab (brown, spider and velvet), crayfish, squid, lobster (both UK and North American varieties) and shrimp. The videos will expand on the current suite of seven ‘how to’ videos already on the site.

Tom Pickerell, SAGB Director, said: “Our current suite of ‘how to’ films has proved extremely popular on YouTube with over 140,000 views and excellent feedback. We hope the films will encourage people to purchase the featured species which are caught around the coast of the UK and overcome their worries about buying unprepared shellfish.”

The current videos can be seen on www.youtube.com/shellfishGB and include demonstrations for langoustine, oysters, scallops, cockles, clams, whelks and mussels.
