Ross Dougal has been elected as the new president of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) at the organisation’s annual general meeting.
Mr Dougal was previously vice president of the SFF and chairman of the Fishing Vessel Agents & Owners Association (Scotland) Ltd. He comes from a well-known Eyemouth fishing family and has worked in a variety of senior positions in the vessel management and fish selling sectors.
He takes over the presidency from Alan Coghill who steps down after four years.
Meanwhile, Alex Wiseman, chairman of the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen’s Association (SPFA), will take over Mr Dougal’s position as vice president at SFF.
Mr Wiseman is a working pelagic skipper who has been chairman of the SPFA for the last six years.
Both Mr Dougal and Mr Wiseman pick up their duties at a testing time. Many challenges still remain including the forthcoming discards ban which SFF said could have a huge impact on the industry if implemented without careful thought and flexibility.
