The new Samherji factory in Dalvík is planned to be the most advanced of its kind in the world

According to the company, this is a significant step towards the establishment of a new, high-tech production facility in Dalvík that offers opportunities for the local authority to re-organise the port area as well as being a benefit to the community as a whole.

Samherji’s investment in this venture is valued at ISK3.5 billion; close to €31 million.

CEO Thorsteinn Már Baldvinsson commented that with the new factory and the investment in the new trawler Björgúlfur which will be registered in Dalvík, Samherji’s investment comes to ISK6000 million (€52.50 million) and the overall investment that Samherji is putting into fishing and processing into its home district around Eyjafjörður in the north of Iceland is approximately ISK11 billion (€96.50 million) over a three-year period.

“Our success in processing is remarkable and the main reason for this is our workforce, who have done great things,” he said, adding that this applies to the community as a whole.

He commented that the new production facility will bring in changes, with more varied and demanding positions, but physically easier.

“We plan to build the world’s most sophisticated fish production facility here, and with your help, we’ll succeed,’ he said, speaking specifically to the company’s workforce.

The present Dalvík factory processes approximately 15,000 tonnes of fish annually.

Samherji has signed a contract with Akureyri architectural firm AVH to design the new building.
