Foam fenders for fishing vessels require a protective polyurethane coating to endure the harsh conditions at sea. RG Group, owner of RG Rom Gummi, has acquired a polyurethane producing company enabling fast delivery on new customised foam filled fenders to the fishing industry, eliminating the delays that can occur when relying on a third party for raw material.
“Polyurethane can be mixed in various ways, making the material suitable for different industries. However, vessel owners usually get polyurethane products as an off-the-shelf item, which may not be tailored for the fishing industry,” explained, RG Rom Gummi CEO Jesper Berg Kristensen.
“Acquiring a polyurethane producing company reduces delivery time on fenders by ensuring that the material is always available as well as enabling customised solutions with the flexibility and durability a vessel requires.”
Long-lasting fenders reduce costs
As a result of the Danish company’s recent acquisition, RG Rom Gummi is launching its new Foam Filled Fenders at Nor-Fishing 2018 in Trondheim, Norway.
“Fenders act as a cushion between a fishing boat and the dock. The polyurethane coating protects the Foam Filled Fenders from wear, and thus ensure long-term durability and reduced costs for shipowners,” he said.
The new Foam Filled Fenders can be used for any type of vessel by customising the dimensions of the fender, density of foam core along with different mooring equipment.
“Larger fishing vessels need bigger and heavier fenders to protect the vessel, while smaller vessels usually prefer lightweight fenders, which can easily be handled by few crew members. The fenders can also be equipped with a mooring rod for easy installation or clevis eyes at both ends of the fender for crane lifting.”
