Raymarine’s new Dragonfly Sonar/GPS, a dual channel advanced CHIRP sonar and GPS chartplotter, generated a flurry of interest at the UK’s Seawork Exhibition.

The Dragonfly unit, which features a large 5.7” ultra bright 1500 nit optically bonded sunlight display for maximum readability in all conditions, has been developed by Raymarine for high performance and simple operation with automatic sonar optimisation.

Raymarine’s CHIRP technology allows the unit to target fish with sonar and explore underwater structure with photo-like clarity using Dragonfly’s high resolution DownVision sonar.

Fiona Pankhurst, Raymarine, told World Fishing and Aquaculture: “Visitors were intrigued by the CHIRP DownVision sonar combination in a stand alone unit – in fact the general consensus was that Dragonfly was likely to be fitted on a number of privately owned vessels very soon indeed.”

Unlike conventional sonars, Raymarine’s CHIRP technology transmits across a wide spectrum of sonar signals. Raymarine says this results in more reliable sonar imagery in both DownVision and fish targeting sonar modes.

The units two dedicated CHIRP sonar channels allows users to see simultaneous views of both fish targeting sonar and lifelike DownVision imagery using Dragonfly’s duel sonar, split screen display.

Dragonfly models are available with Navionics Silver charts or Gold small chart downloads for inland and coastal waters.
