Pharma Marine first gained certification ten years ago. Its products, CalaMarine, CodMarine and LipidMarine, can continue to display the Friend of the Sea insignia.

“It’s an honour to be working with Pharma Marine for years,” said Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea. “Their example shows that it is possible to work sustainably even with a highly complex supply chain in an advanced product.”

CalaMarine is produced from trimmings from the food production of squid and is a sustainable source, naturally high in DHA whilst LipidMarine is made from sustainable anchovy and sardine biomass.

The crude cod oil used to make CodMarine is made on board factory trawlers fishing in the Barents Sea. The collaboration between Pharma Marine and the factory trawlers provides customers with a unique opportunity to trace the oil from the finished product back to the boat and the area where the cod was harvested.

Innovation and respect for the environment are embedded in the company’s ethos. Leif Kjetil, the founder of Pharma Marine, learned lessons from his father, who was a pioneer in the fishing and fish processing industry. “My father thought me the importance of using everything we harvest from nature,” explained Leif Kjetil.
