In what Fiskerstrand describe as the ''largest step forward for the trawler fleet in the last 40 years'', a new trawl docking technology has been developed in close co-operation between SINTEF Fisheries and aquaculture, Fiskerstrand Verft AS, Rolls-Royce Marine and CR Seafood PRC.

The trawl docking technology is a patented solution for floating the trawl bag into a sluice chamber through an closable opening in the transom.

Fiskerstrand says the docking technology can be implemented for a wide range of fishing vessel types and sizes. Model tests that took place at Marintek indicated very low sloshing loads inside the chamber and also low hauling forces connected with floating the bag into the sluice chamber, even in rough seas corresponding to a significant wave height of 8m.

With the new concept, Fiskerstrand says it aims to:Improve safety and the working environment due to sheltered work area and less load on wires

lImprove overall quality of the catch

lReduced pressure on the trawl bag results in less damage to the fish and less effusion on the fish meat

l Sustainable fishing as a result of effective exploitation of quotas

l Improved profitability
