The Estonian company Katroni Ltd. has achieved Friend of the Sea certification for perch, pike-perch and Northern pike originating from Peipsi Lake in Estonia.

The fish stocks are considered to be neither overexploited nor overfished. According to international agreements between Estonia and the Russian Federation, the maximum catch is strictly monitored and all fishing activities are registered in the Daily Catching Report.

The approved fishery uses gillnets and traps licensed by the Estonian Environmental Inspectorate, with minimal bycatch.

A comprehensive traceability system is in place to guarantee that all FoS requirements are fulfilled and that no mixing occurs between certified and not certified origins.

“We are going to proudly display the Friend of the Sea label on our products as evidence of our commitment to the conservation of fish stocks,” said Jevgeni Blinnikov of Katroni.
