Parsons Chain''s continuing research into reducing the trawler''s operating cost, by introducing improved designs and materials for their Trawlex range of chains and chain fittings have resulted in to their latest addition to the range, Profile Chain.

The challenges to fishing gear when new, are set by the industry's severe environment.

These conditions may result in early failures caused by wear and corrosion.

With the introduction of a revolutionary design and the use of improved materials, these effects have been greatly reduced.

It is appreciated that neither wear or corrosion can be eliminated, however the increased contact area and use of wear resistant materials in Trawlex Profile chain will slow down the initial wear.

The initial wear, up to 10 % of the material diameter, has the greatest effect in the shortest period of time, on the reduction of tensile strength and dimensional stability of the chain. The improvement in the dimensional stability will enhance in particular the performance of Trawldoors and Rockhoppers, whereby the 'stretch' of the chain has now been greatly reduced. In addition to wear and dimensional stability the chances of stress and fatigue cracks have been reduced by the increased contact area's and therefore the effects of corrosion.
