BRITTANY-based Morgère says it is doing well in Iceland with its oval foil door and has already put installations on more than 30 bottom trawlers there. Magnus Eyjolfsson, sales manager of Ã?sfell, distributor of Morgère in Iceland says what is getting sales is how simple it is to use the doors, to change the angle of attack and to shoot the door.
According to Magnus, fishermen say that when the door touches the water, this passes through the three foils built in the door and this gives a good spread of the trawl when shooting the gear. When bottom trawling, the system is reported to be working well in both shallow and deep water.
Magnus also says the door is very strong and "this is especially necessary in Icelandic waters, where the bottom sea is very hard". The doors touch the bottom very lightly, resulting in a very little wearing and very low-cost maintenance. The doors are very easy to tow which pays off in bad weather conditions and rough water. Finally they are very light when holding the gear back from the bottom after fishing.
Jean-Gabriel Podeur, managing director of Morgère, expects that the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition will help to increase its Icelandic market. "We hope to sell more doors and increase our number of customers in Iceland. Actually, the exhibition held three years ago was the first step for launching the Oval Foil in Iceland."
