Inshore fisheries and conservation authorities (IFCAs) in the North East, Isles of Scilly and Devon and Severn areas of England are looking for new members.
The North East and Isles of Scilly IFCA are both looking for a new member with experience and interest in commercial fisheries. The Devon and Severn IFCA is seeking a new member with interest and recognised academic expertise relevant to the marine environment in the inshore area.
The 10 IFCAs around the English coastline were established in 2011 and have been responsible for the sustainable management of sea fisheries within 12 nautical miles from shore. They have the power to make byelaws to protect fisheries resources and the environment in their area as well as enforcing national and European fisheries legislation.
They are made up of representatives from the respective local authorities, along with people from across different sectors that use or are knowledgeable about the inshore marine area, such as commercial and recreational fishermen, environmental groups and marine researchers.
Liz Humphreys, acting director of operations and compliance for the Marine Management Organisation which is carrying out the recruitment said, "This is an excellent opportunity for people who are particularly interested and experienced in the inshore fisheries and marine issues to use their skills to influence how these resources are used and managed in the future."
The roles are on a voluntary basis although relevant expenses can be reimbursed in line with the policy decided by each IFCA.
