Oceanology International pulls out all the stops to provide value for visitors at upcoming 50th anniversary event at ExCel London.

Half a century after staging its first exhibition and conference in Brighton, Oceanology International is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary with the largest-ever event in the history of the franchise. Oi London 2020 takes place 17-19th March, organised by Reed Exhibitions, will see more than 500 exhibitors from 90 countries occupying 17,000 square metres of floorspace in ExCel London, while a generous complement of thought leaders and industry professionals will be sharing the most cogent and inspiring projections and ideas relating to the future of the ocean science community in a packed conference programme.
“Oi has been a resounding success story in terms of bringing different marine industry sectors together, sparking off collaborations and highlighting new technologies,” said David Ince, Event Director, Reed Exhibitions.
“The series has now expanded into China and the Americas, with a new Oi expo due for launch in the Middle East later this year, so we have ample cause for celebration. For this very special golden anniversary event in ExCel London, we’re looking forward to welcoming more than 8000 visitors through the doors.”
The list of exhibitors already confirmed for the event gives a good indication of the many ingenious vessel and equipment solutions that attendees can expect to encounter on the show stands or being put through their paces in live on-water demonstrations in the adjacent Royal Victoria Dock.
Deep Trekker (stand E501) will be displaying a variety of the vehicles it designs for accurate and cost-effective subsea site monitoring and inspection processes. With up to eight hours of battery life, the hybrid-powered DTG3 ROV can attain depths of 200 metres, while the powerful REVOLUTION ROV offers wireless connectivity and auto-stabilisation. Both ROVs also provide 4K camera quality. Deep Trekker will also be showing its DT640 utility crawler, an underwater drone robot which can be quickly deployed for tasks such as contraband inspections and hull integrity testing.
CaviDyne LLC (Stand R250) will be exhibiting its CaviBlaster range of ultra-cavitation underwater cleaning units for assets such as aquaculture nets, fishing nets and buoy lines, while Fluidion (stand L200) will be presenting its product range of autonomous, in-situ sampling and measurement devices for environmental monitoring and water quality applications. Its instruments are capable of performing real-time, continuous, in-line measurements and/or collecting and analysing multiple individual samples.
Hampiðjan (stand N703), specialising in the construction and servicing of fishing equipment for trawlers and purse seiners, will be launching its revolutionary optical fibre Dyneema rope for use in winching, lifting, mooring and general-purpose applications, while custom-cable designer and manufacturer Novacavi (stand N250) will be revealing its wide range of durable cable solutions, capable of supporting aquaculture ROV systems even in the most harsh and challenging environments.
The conference programme is particularly content-rich for Oi London 2020, with the itinerary of free-to-attend technical conferences bolstered by the addition of four new tracks on the topics of Marine Pollution & Environmental Stressors, Data Interpretation & AI, Coastal Zones & Shallow Water, Asset Integrity and Monitoring and Offshore Energy Development.
The conference schedule is bookended by two returning one-day events, the Ocean Futures Forum (Tuesday 17th March, 10.00-16.00), delivering insights into the scientific and technological requirements of the future ocean economy, and Catch the Next Wave (Thursday, 19th March, 09.40-17.00), in which seminars hosted by paired speakers will consider how cross-sector connections have benefited the maritime community over the last 50 years of Oi, emphasising ways in which interdependency continues to spark innovation.
